Step short Commemorative March on Sunday 2nd August begins by gathering opposite the Grand on the Leas at 10.30am ready to march off at 11:00am sharp. We march down to the Arch at the bottom of the Leas where we will halt whilst wreaths are laid at the Brundstone War Memorial.
We then continue down the Road of Remembrance past the Burstin Hotel and into the Harbour area. The Harbour area will be a short distance away from where we were in past years, but still in the vacinity of where troops came and went through the harbour.
On Sunday 2nd August at 7pm the Bugler that played the last post under the Arch on the Leas last year will be back again this year playing every Sunday evening until Remembrance Sunday.
Step Short are hoping to recreate the Mole cafe on the Harbour arm that was there in WW1 for 4 weekends starting on August 8th. We have not had very much time to do this and are looking for volunteers to help.
You can see the photo of the mole cafe above and would like to create that atmosphere as closely as we can. The cafe was set up in 1915 by the two Jeffrey sisters and friend Mrs stuart to give refreshment to the troops and nurses passing through. On the table you can see a book that was signed by those passing through the cafe.
The first signing in the book was on June 9th 1915We hope to have a book for people to sign too.
